Last night I had the please of meeting some of the great people from GNR, I specifically spent some time talking with Pritesh their Internal Operations Manager. A great guy for sure.
I asked him a bit about his company and where they were going, the usual at these events, because lets face it tech people like to gossip about everyone else’s business.
GNR is a domain name registry that focuses entirely on the new ICANN authorised .name domain e.g. roger.name, billgates.name, stepfordwife.name, etc. Their goal is for every individual in the world to have a personalised presence on the web, using .name.
I think that is admirable, yet challenging goal for them to achieve. I mean blogging is valuable, yet most of people don’t know what it is, having a web page is valuable yet most of people don’t have one, and still large numbers of company’s don’t have a web site.
Now, Pritesh was honest when I asked why he was there he said ‘partners Roger’. While we chatted about this and that I was thinking about the best fit partners for someone selling virtual identity’s on the web and I thought how about Rapleaf (techcrunch post, their homepage).
Rapleaf is a startup that is focusing on ‘reputation management’ in a very eBay-ish way. In fact eBay is so unhappy about Rapleaf that they recently made the effort to ban them from their website.
How I see it is GNR and Rapleaf could benefit from being partners. Whenever someone signs up for either service they automatically get a referral or auto-enrollment in their partner’s operation. This would make .name more attractive a place to build your Internet Identity from and Rapleaf would get thousands more valuable sign-ups.
A possible enhancement to the partnership could be for some co-development of Rapleaf tools that could be embedded in initially only .name domain web sites.
I think there is lots of opportunity here. In my mind Rapleaf has some unique features and should do well going forward.
Check out my profile.
Here is the email to Rapleaf if you want to contact them regarding partnerships: people@rapleaf.com
