Jobs jobs, where are the employees?

by Roger Kondrat on June 5, 2006

It must be that time again, if you are over the age of 30 you know what I mean - dot com fever. Everywhere I go, talking to friends in Canada, America, the UK, everyone is either involved in chmod 777 (the new non-hype term for Web 2.0) projects, thinking one up, starting one up, begging for money, or out of money because their idea sucked (yes that is a technical term) this bad.

So the problem since everyone has great ideas that they want to persue is finding talented employees that don’t mind being part of someone else’s team. I myself am an idea guy but having been old enough to appreciate the dot com melt down I realise that there are only a finite amount of ‘great’ ideas and if someone walked up today and said Roger we need you on our team and their idea was a great one I would be more than happy to hop on their team. Learning, and doing brings me closer to my dreams of success than sitting at home dreaming.
I say this not because I am soliciting but because its the young, innovative talent that are the most difficult to attract, everyone wants to make millions. I guess living at your mom and dad’s place helps to fuel the fantasy of an easy million though.

You have great ideas, I believe you, what are you going to do about it? I say put your idea in your pocket, get in the game, get that experience, get those contacts, and if you work hard enough maybe you really will be one of those under 30 millionaires with his own company or maybe just maybe you will be a millionaire because you worked on a great team that delivered a great product.

Think about what I am saying. Now I will plug a few friends - couldn’t help it. Crowdstorm.com (london, UK), WebJam.com (london, UK), Rapleaf.com, and if these guys aren’t keen there is always all these guys or these guys.

Great post (and we’re not just saying that because of the plug) :-)
It reminds me of an old saying I stuck on my wall years ago:
It’s not how many ideas you have but how many you make happen.

Starting a business is really difficult and I would never recommend doing it on your own. So if you can round up a team of co-founders or find other people starting a business you believe in (easier said than done)- join forces.

Lastly, try not to think about the money aspect. Get involved with a business you are passionate about because you really believe in it and that it can change the landscape. Your passion for it will result in perservance and success after which the money will fall into place.

I agree Philip it is absolutely important to realise that money is not the focus, not the objective, it is simply a result and there is no way to predict how much you will get. It may be a paycheck like 95% of everyone else or you may be the next Google millionaire who knows.

Thanks Philips
