So I bought a Mac - an Apple MacBook Pro to be precise. After making a big noise about how Apple wasn’t towing the line environmentally I flip-flopped.
Maybe I should go pro and become a politician! Nawwww. On the surface it seems like a flip-flop but really it was just a choice between two poor options.
Here is my thought process, take as you wish and comment you support or disdain for my choice as you wish.
Have you heard Windows Vista was released, yup to a mega advertising campaign too. Have you also heard that in the UK Windows has been selling for an eye popping 300-800$ (£150-400) for the various editions?
Yup I waited before I bought because I had thought Mac then PC then Mac, after the environmental information I was firmly in PC territory, then I saw the prices. I couldn’t believe it.
Jo Public was being charged mile high prices at retail. Not only were less financially advantaged people going to have to pay huge money sometime over the next 5 years for Vista but they were going to have to pay hundreds of Pounds (£) for upgrades and who knows what else.
I thought there is no way I can support that besides I wasn’t really keen on Vista to start with I just didn’t have enough reason to switch once I heard about how little effort Apple makes on behalf of the environment as I said.
Anyway that’s where I am at. I chose to pay for a MacBook Pro knowing that I was supporting unethical environmental policies from a company that only sold by volume about 4% of American domestic demand versus that absolute racketeering practices of Microsoft’s retail pricing policy.
What do you think of Microsoft’s pricing policy? If you think its wrong go to this government website and sign (virtually) the petition.
Last minute update: Apparently Bill Gates is blaming the pricing on exchange rates…hahahahahaha. Bill go back to school and finish high school or college whichever it is you forgot to complete.
