Mobile Fun - Want to know how fast you can lose a customer

by Roger Kondrat on April 4, 2007

Recently I noticed how cheap I can get a Prada phone for from companies like Mobile Fun and how much I can sell that same mobile for on eBay and I thought hey I could make after costs about £50 per mobile. Hmmm ok I will give them a call and see if they will give me a deal on 5-10 Prada phones (thats £2500-£5000 in business to Mobile Fun).

So I looked around and there was no IM or Skype connect service so I figured no big deal most companies don’t do that yet anyway, and gave them a call on their 0870 number.  I was on the line for 3min listing to this Ad, that announcement, this postal process, returns here, etc.  I heard every service they offered twice I swear (being a big dramatic but not about the time).

After listing to some messaging service go on and on for 3 minutes about things I couldn’t give a fart about they hung up on me.  I didn’t even make it to the Queue for making my order.

So that was it, I gave up that fast. Thanks to that little fiasco they paid Froogle (googles’ shopping search engine) a nice little referral fee and lost a chance to make £2500-£5000 in one purchase.

Ouch, but it happens.  Amazon has mostly lost me.  Sometimes I use them and mostly its because of their Wishlist feature that I even go back.  I even buy sometimes off the shelf in Waterstones now where I never used to since 2000.

Companies often do more harm to themselves than any competitor can do.  Sure marketing is important but customer satisfaction is key and loyalty is like printing money because it is so much cheaper than acquiring a new customer. Poor Mobile Fun and Amazon, money lost for no good reason other than silliness on your part :((

Has this post affected your opinion of Mobile Fun or Amazon?  Will it affect your desire to purchase from one of these vendors?  Comment your thoughts.  Maybe tell us which sites have provided you with poor service and what they did.

    1. froogle is free!!!
    2. most likey not in MF's intrest to sell a client 5/6 phones in one go. We get calls all day fors bulk orders. but cant sell as phones are usualy subsidised.

To be frank- if you are not impressed with Amazon's service, then you might as well give up shopping online!!

    1. Ok.

    2. Maybe you didn't but it doesn't change how crappy your customer service was and that it cost me money to wait on the line unnecessarily. As a potential customer I shouldn't be made to feel that way regardless of my purchase intentions. What you should be taking away from this is, the possibility that your customer service is losing you customers, and not finding a way to put the blame on me.

    3. This statement shows your very ignorance of online shopping. There are many online stores that provide the same products as Amazon and it is not my fault you choose to not look for them. Many online retailers offer a far greater level of service. For example Play.com offers many of Amazon's core products and they ship much faster with no additional cost. Often their prices are better too.

I appreciate your opinions and feedback on the Google Shopping comment but I think you really didn't do your company a favour by representing yourself this way and responding as you did.

    Cheers
