What is happening with the new RSS search engines? Traffic comparison

by Roger Kondrat on June 16, 2007

Back in 2005 there was a bit of a mini-explosion of specialised Blog search engines and as competition came some companies have already come and gone but I thought as it has been just over 2 years since many of these companies came to exist it was worth a look to see how they were doing.

Whom I compared:

  • Ice Rocket
  • Feedster
  • Sphere
  • Plazoo
  • I choose rather arbitrarily who to include and the basis I used for selection was whom I could name off the top of my head. You may use other engines but I figure these ones are probably reasonably popular relative to their peers due to their greater visibility.

Please note that I didn’t include Technorati because it is a giant traffic-wise and literally destroyed the graph below due to their over 3,000,000 unique viewers relative to their peers (if you can call them that).

I wanted to do a comparison against Google’s Blog Search but because it is a sub-domain I could not do it.

Also below are the exact numbers from Compete that support the above graph, I find it a bit odd that Compete don’t allow me to easily embed the numerical information in addition to the graph but maybe someday soon.
