Quarterlife - If you haven’t heard or seen it you are missing out
Recently I was reading an article on the ‘Writers Strike’ yawn, anyway I came across an article about new web-only TV Show (aka Webisode) called ‘Quarterlife‘ which NBC has signed a deal with and will be premiering next season.
Why am I writing about it?
Because Quarterlife represents the newest of the new and films like them are excellent excellent vehicles for advertising and promoting to an audience that is measurable and definable.
What to know a bit about Quarterlife?
In the last 24hrs the site has been written about 15 times and since its started ‘marketing’ itself, it has been written about nearly 10,000 times (in the blogosphere) and lets just say that those 10,000 articles represent just 5 referrals each to Quarterlife then you are looking at an audience of 50,000 minimum. Why minimum because these results don’t take into consideration that YouTube has around 350 videos of which the highest ranked (by viewer count) was watched nearly 1,000,000 times.
Now of course there are some basic flaws to my numbers but that is okay because they are so low compared to the real numbers (Im confident, but not certain) that a high price for ad space could easily be forced upon an Ad buyer. That being said since the show was essentially a pilot a few things from marketing/business perspective could have happend had someone the accumen to hop on while the opportunity was available.
- A business could have gotten major exposure for probably not a lot of $$ or ££
- They know there audience and you (business person) could have helped to discover who their natural audience is (although it is somewhat apparent) and not just done what I mentioned in number 1 which is great but Sponsored the show so that when NBC launches and the website recieves a huge surge of users trying to find the original series online your name would still be there for many many millions of viewers.
- This show is great, I love it and I can’t put it down (figuratively of course) and so when my partner gets home today and realises just how little I have done - wow I am in big trouble mister.
If you are a business and you want to reach the 21-30 post-college crowd, you know the same crowd ‘Friends’ captivated in the late 80’s and 90’s then you definitely want to link up with these guys.
