Killer easy conferencing now on a mobile phone near you

by Roger Kondrat on March 8, 2008

London mobile startup Howler Technologies (Howler) was formed early in 2007 by Ed Hodges, Jay Fenton and Dan Lane with a few great ideas, one of them being how they could simplify voice conferencing using mobiles.

Howler today is not trying to produce all the mobile products they originally set out to do they are focusing on creating one great one at a time and for the last year they been testing in a closed beta their amazingly simple and easy to use voice conferencing and management software. This software removes all (okay there may be a few left, but I was very pleased) the hassles usually associated with a conference call such as:

  • PIN codes
  • Passwords
  • Complexity
  • Cost $$/££ (always an issue)

Now you probably have not thought this far (I didn’t until I tried it a few times) due to the fact that conference calling is usually so difficult and costly but once you can conference so easily you will conference so much much more often which means you may wish to store pre-configured groups for ‘quick’ conferences - bet you never thought you would see the day.Additionally because the software - sorry it only works on Symbian right now - is not centralised and is installed locally on your handset there are no monthly or per usage fees from your mobile service provider.

This product is truely imaginative and easy to use. If you have not tried it then you really should consider it. Also please remember it is in beta release so that means it is experimental and problems can arise and for some the risk of scrambling their mobile phones software is just too scary to ponder.
