 We get it you want us to write about your startup, but you need to get it that it takes time and effort like all good things, so if you want to get a reaction from us, you should try the following the below guidelines.

The more you ad-hear to these guidelines the more likely I will write something about your startup and the quicker I will publish it. 

Startups often email us and some even find one of our mobile numbers (not a big deal) asking if we would talk about their startup. Well we would love to but quite often we get incomplete pitches with lots of standard information missing.  The other day I got a young entrepreneur who just said (I am paraphrasing) ‘Can you write about our new web application… website URL…’.

I sat there a little dumb-founded since there was so little to work with I wondered how I was supposed to write something compelling and then my partner said she found it a bit odd that someone wanted me to write something but put so little effort into it… It was in that moment that the need for this article was born.

If you’re thinking about asking me to write about your startup, please do follow the below guidelines.

Tell me the name and a bit about your startup, this should include but not exclusively:

• Who are the founders, assuming there is more than one?
• How many employees you have and if there are the usual 3-4 tell me about them - 2-4 lines with names, ages, and special skills.
• How did you guys/girls meet? Is there a story, was it serendipitous ?
• Where is your company based e.g. UK, Germany, Ireland, etc…?
• Are you looking for Venture Capital (VC), have VC, or you are bootstrapping?
• Tell me about your product or service for crying out-loud!
• What is your competitive advantage?
• Are you going with ad-funded or will there be a subscription charge?
• Are you in Alpha, Beta, or launching shortly? How long have you been operating?
• If you are about to launch give TechWinter a date so we can try our best to meet that time frame.
• Where do you see the company going in the near future?
• Hopes and dreams/objectives.

Above all be brief and to the point for our sake and for yours as the more you talk/write the more you can fall off message and we get the wrong impression.
