6Pages: Another Social Network - or an aggregator with personality and community?

Comments

6pages logoFive smart London students from Imperial College launched a new Social network today called 6Pages.  Clark Zhang founder and CEO of 6Pages told me that the idea came to him in 2006, and that although it was challenging to find the right group to build a company with but in the end it was all decided over a few cups of coffee.  From that point the team of five committed individuals worked to build 6Pages even while attending University classes.

6Pages as Clark describes 6Pages as a social network but definitely different from more well known and well recognised social networks such as Facebook and MySpace.

While Facebook makes a big effort to communicate its connectivity with friends, family and business professionals any user of Facebook will likely tell you outside of viral software that includes beer buying or beer throwing there is not much in the way of content on Facebook.  I mean there are definite pictures, comments, and the odd video but no real discussion.

The impression I got when I used 6Pages is that they are trying to evolve the model Facebook and Myspace have already perfected and by adding more content generation tools like Newsvine.

Perhaps 6Pages is the next step for these two products except that these five youngsters have managed to get there first! To me they sound interesting since I find Facebook very boring now and I feel there isn’t that community feeling on Newsvine like there once was in the days before the Associated Press.

Now 6Pages maybe the future but their current design definitely needs a face-lift or a ‘Beta’ sign somewhere on the site as there are some glaring errors but over all this is a solid start and I hope over the next few weeks the team will kick into high-gear and give the design a facelift so they can grow beyond the Imperial College.

Clark, Ryan, Hank, Matthieu, and Nicolas good luck, I think you may have something there. Nick Leon you are the wise and steady hand make sure you take care of those young guys.

If you liked what 6Pages is doing and are interested go give them a try and come back and tell me all about it.
