Are you ready for the second major upgrade to Microsofts IE in less than a year?
Microsoft implied years ago they had not developed anything significant other than security patches and tweaks to IE6 because there was no need it was already providing an excellent experience.
That was around the time Firefox was beginning to gain traction in the marketplace. Now Firefox has a global market share of 21% and in some places it has a market share of nearly 50% (Finland).
Oddly Microsoft is launching its second major upgrade to the iconic Internet Explorer in less than a year but only the 3rd time in over 5 years. It is unbelievable how complacent Microsoft has become even with Google reminding it constantly of the competitive environment.
Personally this is just another great example of how competition is a necessity if we are to continue to our tremendous technological progress.
Below is a detailed article from an AP writer on the new IE8 be warned the guy is in Microsoft’s back pocket so anything he says about IE’s competitors e.g Firefox, Safari, or even poor small Flock are in some cases totally false.
New Browser Eases Web Sharing
Many people now create and share content on the Internet or blend services from various sites in their daily tasks, reflecting the medium’s clear evolution from a place for simply consuming Web sites.
The upcoming version of Microsoft Corp.’s Internet Explorer, version 8, embraces those trends by adding an “Activities” feature that makes all that easier for PC users. Although it’s still in a “beta” test mode meant mostly for Web designers to try out, I’m liking what I’m seeing so far.
