News: Wordpress 2.5 - Still not done
Wordpress 2.5 was delayed from the beginning of March, then word got out that they were going to need another 10 days to finish 400+ open tickets. Hahahaha. Anyway they Matt et al did to their credit close about 200 tickets and release an RC1 but that was not what was expected to be fair to the rest of us.
Either way because 2.5 is going to be such a big upgrade most users will not upgrade for a while, myself included because many many structural changes were and plugins will take time to migrate to the new platform although most of the best plugins to be respectful of their very generous authors get updated very frequently.
If you want to try the RC1 here is the link to the direct download. If you want to read the WP announcement you can go here.
Regarding the actual release of WP 2.5
For about two years Matt et al have been talking about upgrading the administrative panel’s UI but it has always been put off as other higher priority improvements have been deemed more critical to the evolution of the platform but in 2.5 the UI finally got priority and stayed on top of the list and so the change will be dramatic for those of us used to the old WP, that being said many ‘newbies’ find the current UI difficult to understand and so this improvement may grow the overall market not just WPs share of the current market.
What are you favourite plugins? I have been thinking about this lots lately and I was wondering which plugins everyone else is using (assuming you blog and you use WP of course).
