Facebook - Fear and loathing, okay mostly loathing

Comments

Facebook for me is just a Rolodex it has no intrinsic value beyond its basic ability to remain connected to friends, family and contacts. Beyond that I feel a sense of loathing for Facebook.

I hate getting asked to join a pirate party over and over again, I hate getting asked to events that are happening within groups I am already a part of and getting two or three emails for the same event…. Arrghhh!!!! (jumps off table in feeble attempt at suicide).

Worst part

Also I hate the fact that they introduce new privacy eroding features such as the very dishonest “Roger loves…..” ads, which appear in friends profiles promoting a product in my name.  I am sorry Facebook but this was so obviously slander of my name and identity that no apology will ever ever cover it up or displace my anger or give me that sense of common community for which social media is famous for applying when they make an error.

My anger and sense of ethics have been stewing over this issue for a long time and I just can’t let it go on any longer.

FACEBOOK YOU MUST ACT ETHICALLY

When Facebook makes it hard to move people to your limited profile by providing poor UI tools meaning you have to guess names or have 10s of multiple tabs open to see who needs to be on your Limited Profile and whom IS a proper FRIEND then this is very bad for their users and is only slightly less worrisome then the ’social ads’.

So much of what Facebook offers is left to the user to experiment with, understand and make educated choices, but where are these educated users?  Are they the young girls who perennially get harassed by older men pretending to be young boys; these educated users?  Are they parents who don’t even know their kids are downloading 1000s of songs?

UNEDUCATED and NAIVE

May I just state what I think is a little obvious and apparent about Facebook’s understanding of their users - UNEDUCATED and NAIVE.  This goes double for the VCs that continue to fund Zuckerburg and his team while they continue to stumble around in the dark looking for a way to turn their product into the success everyone seems to think they should be.

Is Facebook annoying you?  How do you feel about Facebook’s actions?
