After three years of ups and downs, the Dot Watch Braille Smartwatch will finally begin shipping.
Created for the visually impaired, the gadget is the world’s first smartwatch with the ability to to deliver information via a unique tactile watch-face instead of visual clues. The device enables users to accept calls, check messages, the time and set alarms via a Bluetooth connection to other smart devices. Up to now, most assistive smartwatches for the blind have relied on audio prompts.

The Dot Watch is the world’s first Braille equipped smartwatch. The watchcase measures 43mm diameter by 12.5mm thick, and it comes in three optional natural leather bands in different sizes while five color options allow it to match different senses of style. As we can see from the images, the smartwatch shows off an eye-catching minimalistic appearance design, and the silver aluminum casing not only delivers a lightweight and durable construction, but also adds much elegant modern aesthetics to the wearable.
A lot of thought has obviously been put into the design. and it’s clear that attention has been paid to every detail. Made of 6000 series aluminum the watch comes in at only 33 grams. Housed in the 43mm case is a li-polymer 400mAh battery that keeps going for around 7 days before needing a recharge.

Unlike any regular smartwatches, the Dot Watch features a uniquely designed rounded dial that displays time and notifications from smartphone in Braille. When touching the Watch dial with your finger, the dynamic dots will accurately tell you the time. Using built-in vibration motor, the smartwatch always lets you know when receiving notifications from the connected smartphone using Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, and the dots will display the notifications in Braille.
