Mercedes-Benz to Build EU First Battery Recycling Factory

Mercedes-Benz, the renowned German car manufacturer, has announced its plans to construct a new battery recycling factory in Kuppenheim, Germany, as part of its commitment to sustainable business practices and the transition to electric vehicles. The factory will include a closed-loop recycling system for battery raw materials, making it the first integrated recycling concept of its kind in Europe.

The event, attended by high-profile stakeholders, including Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Thekla Walker, Minister for the Environment, Climate Protection, and Energy Sector Baden-Württemberg, and Michael Brecht, Chairman of the Works Council of the joint operation Gaggenau, was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony that signified a significant milestone in Mercedes-Benz’s sustainable business strategy.

With a recycling rate of over 96%, the factory will have an annual capacity of 2,500 tonnes, which means that most of the batteries used in electric vehicles can be recycled, reducing waste and minimizing the impact on the environment.

In partnership with Primobius, a technology firm, Mercedes-Benz will develop the factory, and the investment for the project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection as part of a scientific research project.

Mercedes-Benz is taking a comprehensive approach to the circular economy of battery systems, focusing on circular design, value retention, and closing the loop. The company aims to ensure that the production and disposal of batteries are as sustainable as possible, with minimal impact on the environment.

The closed-loop recycling concept is a crucial component of Mercedes-Benz’s circular economy strategy, and it involves collecting used batteries and recycling them to recover valuable raw materials. These materials can then be used to manufacture new batteries, reducing the need for new materials and minimizing waste. Battery recycling is an essential aspect of the shift towards electric vehicles, reducing the demand for raw materials and ensuring valuable materials are not lost.

Mercedes-Benz’s innovative battery recycling factory is a critical element of the company’s sustainable business strategy. The establishment of closed-loop recycling of battery raw materials is a significant step towards reducing the environmental impact of electric vehicles. With the support of its partners and the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, Mercedes-Benz is well-positioned to lead the way in sustainable production and disposal of batteries.

HP unveiled the HP Spectre x360 14

0

HP Inc. unveiled the HP Spectre x360 14, offering the viewability of a 15-inch device with the mobility of a 13.5-inch form factor for the ultimate browsing, reading, editing, and viewing experience. Also announced today is HP’s expanded 11th Gen Intel® Core™ Processor Spectre and ENVY line up, packed with incredible performance gains and increased battery life for the perfect work-at-home lifestyle.

The PC has become more essential than ever, with many doing more from home like work, school, and doctor’s visits, for the foreseeable future. But the home is a place often filled with roommates and family members also working or learning, requiring work and personal devices to be as flexible as the user’s environment. Less than one-third of users have an office where the door can be closed1, making living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens the open office floorplan of 2020. HP is creating devices like the new HP Spectre x360 14 to be adaptive and smart, with the use of intelligent features – like performance management and new AI-based audio capabilities – to anticipate needs before the user does.

“On-the-go computing takes on new meaning as today’s users demand devices that can accommodate a variety of use cases and environments within their homes,” said Kevin Frost, global lead and general manager, Consumer Personal Systems, HP Inc. “HP is listening to its users in real time, offering the most intelligent Spectre yet – designed to seamlessly adapt and anticipate the needs and demands of its users, from intelligent audio features like AI Noise Removal for more immersive and engaging Zoom calls to solutions like Smart Sense that automatically adjust settings on the device for improved performance.”

HP Spectre x360 14: Beauty Meets Adaptive Intelligence and Boundary Breaking Performance

The head-turning gem-cut and dual chamfer design achieved by precision aluminum CNC machining continues to define the Spectre portfolio, along with the color offerings of Nightfall Black with Copper Luxe accents, Poseidon Blue with Pale Brass accents, and Natural Silver. Other standout design features of the device include:

  • The first Spectre x360 with a 3:2 aspect ratio display, the Spectre x360 14 offers roughly 20% more vertical viewing space than a 16:9 ratio4 – perfect for browsing, reading, and editing content for greater productivity and efficiency. It’s like working with an A4 size paper to easily write, sign documents, or sketch ideas out digitally.
  • A 90.33% screen-to-body ratio (STBR) and 100% color calibration with a Delta E of less than two for accurate, lifelike colors.
  • Optional OLED display for an incredible 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio6 and a 100% DCI-P3 wide color gamut for brighter, richer colors on the screen. To combat exposure to harmful blue lights caused by spending more time in front of a device, the OLED panel shifts the display spectrum to reduce the blue light, and still delivers vibrant color vividly on the Spectre x360 14, which comes with both TUV7 and Eyesafe® certifications.
  • The first Spectre with an all-in-one keyboard, featuring a power button, new camera shutter button, HP Command Center, a mute mic, as well as a fingerprint reader.
  • Energy Star and EPEAT Gold certified, the Spectre x360 14 is a welcomed addition to HP’s most sustainable PC portfolio10, which has more than 100 Gold EPEAT-registered products in more than 19 countries – more than any other company in the IT industry. HP’s innovative use of natural, renewable materials in the device’s keyboard scissors cut the equivalent of 1,300 pounds of coal being burned in CO2 emissions over the lifetime of the device. Additionally, the packaging uses biodegradable molded fiber instead of plastic foam.

Co-engineered with Intel, the Spectre x360 14 has been tested, tuned, and verified14 to meet the requirements of the Intel® Evo™ platform15, ensuring it meets Intel’s hardware specifications and key experience targets for responsiveness, instant wake, battery life, and fast charge. With up to 17 hours of battery life, this device can follow you throughout the home or wherever you want to go. Working from home requires a consistent, fast connection and the Spectre x360 14 delivers with 3x faster connection speeds with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 support. The device also supports Thunderbolt™ 4 for fast signaling data rates to send and receive large files like videos, photos, and movies in seconds. And easily transfer files between devices and operating systems with HP Quick Drop. With HP MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen support and its magnetic attaching function, the Spectre x360 14 is perfect for creation and Adobe Fresco qualified, with apps in the Adobe Creative Cloud, Premiere Rush, Premiere Pro, Creative Cloud Photography Plan, and Acrobat Standard free during a 30-day trial period22.

The Spectre x360 14 offers a host of intelligent features and software capabilities designed to seamlessly adapt to a user based on the activities and apps being used at a given time. These features include:

How good is your web hosting package?

0

Your website demands web hosting to be accessible to users online. The web hosting provider you choose is imperative to the success of your site. But how to make that choice? The variety of companies and plans can be confusing, so you can perform a little market research to narrow down the options. This tip is also valid for your current plan. In case you are hesitant about the ratio of value and quality of your plan, research and compare until you find the best provider for your needs.

Web hosting comparison can be quite helpful, as it correlates the providers’ various features, making the choice easier for you. Fortunately, specific platforms such as Howtohosting Guide are specialized in creating comparative content regarding web hosting plans.

Which features determine the quality of your web hosting package?

Web hosting companies present a range of plans with pre-configured web servers to host your site. You can rely on plans that handle everything, including technical maintenance and support.

In general, an excellent web hosting plan has to offer quality in the following segments. Each of them is equally important: price, bandwidth, storage, scalability, security, support, and backup.

If you are on a tight budget, you may want to start looking for a good shared hosting plan. This is an affordable way to initiate your project, perfect for the early stages of grooming your site. However, once your project starts accelerating its pace and attracts more traffic, your provider should be able to upgrade your plan. Ensure that upgrading your plan will be smooth, and don’t hesitate to ask as many questions as you can think of.

The bandwidth and the speed of your plan are connected. In short, the bandwidth is the amount of data you can transfer to and from your server every month. This factor depends on the web page size, the number of visitors, and the number of visited pages. Note that each provider offers different levels of bandwidth. If your website is small, bandwidth won’t be of much concern. Most companies offer a sufficient amount even with their cheapest plans. However, the less bandwidth available, the slower the website is to load regardless of your visitors’ internet speed.

You should know that some providers offer unlimited bandwidth options, which in most cases, is unnecessary. If you are unsure about the amount of bandwidth you need, contact the chosen firms and ask them to perform a calculation in your favour.

Storage is another feature, often advertised as unlimited. If you are running a small project, a cheap shared plan will satisfy your storage needs, unless you upload lots of videos to your site. Scalability is another crucial element of an excellent plan. If your provider is not scalable, your website can’t handle sudden spikes in visitors. Such increases can be seasonal, and you should be prepared for them. In other words, if you want your site to grow, you need scalable service, allowing you to upgrade whenever the time comes.

As for security, as a minimum requirement, you need a spam prevention tool and an SSL certificate. Having an SSL certificate, in particular, will also increase the trustworthiness of your site. Another layer of security to consider at some point is a solution against DDoS (distributed denial-of-service attacks), such as Cloudflare.

Running a website also means experiencing technical issues, so you should check the level of professionalism of the provided technical support experts. Needless to say, support should be available at all times, or 24/7, via live chat, email, and (or) telephone.

Backup may be at the end of this list of crucial features, but it as critical as the rest. You need daily, automatic backups of your site, so you can restore it if something goes wrong. Make sure to ask if a backup is available with your chosen plan.

More tips to find the best offers in the niche market

Another excellent advice we can give you when hunting for offers is choosing your hosting locally. This is especially valid when you are planning to target a specific country. If this is your case, you can read the reviews of local clients. Also, take note of the local currency and the regulations.

Lastly, require information about the service level agreement (SLA), and get to know the clauses that specify service details in terms of cost, availability, etc. Some companies also mention the uptime in the SLA, which is usually around 99%. This number means that your site is expected to be down for approximately three days a year. That being said, uptime is another critical factor when making the web hosting choice, so don’t forget to consider it.

Dirt 5 Launches October 9 for Xbox One

Mark your calendars, race fans. The team here at Codemasters are delighted to announce that Dirt 5 launches October 9 on Xbox One!

Since the reveal of Dirt 5 during May’s Inside Xbox show, it’s been amazing to see the Xbox community’s reaction to the return of the amplified, wilder side of the Dirt franchise, which takes you across the globe in an array of off-road machines, tackling extreme terrain in incredible locations. That’s all set in this bright and bold racing vibe that encourages you to let loose and enjoy everything Dirt 5 has to offer.

Of course, alongside the October 9 release for Xbox One, we’re full speed ahead with launching Dirt 5 on Xbox Series X, too. Leveraging the power of the console through incredible graphical fidelity and further optimized performance – including a 120fps mode – Dirt 5 on Xbox Series X is set to blow… your… mind.

The best part? Thanks to Xbox Smart Delivery, if you pick up Dirt 5 on October 9 for Xbox One, then make the jump to next-gen, you’ll get the Xbox Series X version of Dirt 5, free of charge.

In every month up to October, we’re focusing on a key aspect of Dirt 5 and bringing you all manner of news and insight on what you can expect from our amplified off-road racer. Throughout June, we’re breaking down Career mode – the biggest and most ambitious of its kind in the franchise.

In terms of the nuts and bolts, the headlines are: 130 unique events across five chapters, covering nine different race types. Players choose how they play with multiple progression paths, with big rewards and special events opening up along the way. Represent real-world brands with 20 sponsorships, each with their own unique liveries and objectives hit. With a focus on action, variety and choice, you’ll be challenged with mastering extreme dynamic weather, intimidating terrain, and the most powerful off-road cars. Got what it takes to own the spotlight, and ensure nobody forgets your name?

If we stopped right there, that’s a Career mode we’re really excited to be bringing you – but there’s one particularly tasty cherry to drop on this cake. Dirt 5’s Career is driven by a story and an audio-based narrative, starring none other than Troy Baker and Nolan North. These icons of gaming play the respective roles of the player’s mentor and main antagonist, setting the scene for so much of the narrative built around your Career experience.

Alex ‘AJ’ Janicek, voiced by Baker, is the undisputed star of the off-world racing world that you’re just getting started in. Bruno Durand, voiced by North, is a cold, calculated veteran of motorsports, dead-set on dominating the world of Dirt. These two characters are bound to collide – and when they do, the result creates an opportunity for the player to emerge as a new superstar of the sport.

The whole story is tracked and pushed forward by the in-game Dirt Podcast by Donut Media, hosted by the real-world car culture and automotive content heroes at Donut Media. Their audio show sets the scene and stirs the pot, with big news and interviews with AJ, Bruno and other guest stars. Make sure to check out our latest Dirt 5 video, where Baker, North, Donut Media and our Dialogue Producer Olly Johnson reveal all on the story, and the free-form recording style that brings the narrative to life.

That’s just one feature of Dirt 5 that we’re shamelessly getting hyped for you to play. Over the coming months we’ll reveal more on multiplayer, split-screen, car classes, truly extreme events, livery editor, photo mode and a brand new feature for Dirt, never before seen in the franchise.

Got all of that? Good. Now, I think I need a lie down…

Should you buy a normal or gaming mouse for 2020?

0

Probably you have wondered if you should buy a normal or a gaming mouse? If you are looking for the experience of someone who has already tried them, and can tell you what the difference is, you are in the right place to clarify your doubts. This includes concerns such as whether a mouse is abysmal or stunning, or whether it is worth it for its price.

To begin, we’ll analyze every aspect of a gamer mouse, and we are going to tell you about our experience and the difference in respect to a normal one.

A gamer mouse has some key characteristics and advantages intended only for online video games that normally other mice do not have. They stand out above all for their aesthetics and unusual design. They are light and have a “sporty” structure. Normally they have more buttons than normal mice, this is because they can be configured as shortcuts to quickly access a key or an assigned macro.

Razer Hyperflux Gaming MouseRazer Hyperflux Gaming Mouse

To be considered a true gamer product, it is necessary to have these characteristics you’re about to see.

Shape and ergonomics: There are up to 3 basic types of mice according to the way we grab them. They are called claw, palm, and hybrid. It is fundamental that before choosing the right one, you know in advance which one adapts better to your form and style of game.

Weight: We recognize that a light gamer mouse is as good as a heavy one, but most players prefer something lighter to fly from one point of the screen to another. This unique characteristic allows you to remove or put weight on them with a small weight system inside.

The DPI: This defines the maximum sensitivity of a gamer mouse. The greater the number of dpi, the more sensitivity it has. Honestly, if you have 4000 DPI it is more than enough as long as it is adjustable. While some gaming shops might try to sell you 16000 DPI mice, they are not necessary.

Lots of buttons: As we noted before, most of these mice have more buttons than an ordinary one. Some of them have up to 20 buttons. You can set up each one to do a different action, and not only in one game, but a specific configuration for each game.

The recommended number of buttons depends a lot on which games you play frequently. For games like WOW or RPG games online, you can have 20 buttons, one for each skill or command.

On the other hand, if you’re going to play League of Legends or DOTA 2, you won’t need so many buttons. For that kind of game, we would recommend 2 or 3 buttons for your gaming mouse.

However, this is very subjective, so remember that everyone has his style of play, so take this information as a suggestion to get an idea of what you want.

Lights: There are thousands of different patterns and colors in the design for each gamer mouse. We’re talking about more than 15 million possible configurations, so you’ll have lots of choice.

Each brand usually has a predefined color, such as Razer with green, Mars gaming with red, and Logitech with blue. You can set patterns as intermittent, continuous, or half, depending on the model you buy and the quality of it.
For normal mice, they usually come in the same standard size, hence there are not many variations and you are usually unable to choose one that you immediately like. Although they tend to be cheaper, they also get damaged faster due to lower quality. The sensitivity is not very good, as they are generally for offices where the keyboard is used more instead.

In conclusion, the benefits of a gamer mouse compared to a normal one is immense. If you like to play video games and are seeking to join e-sports gaming, a gamer mouse is what you need as it is going to improve your gaming experience to a new level. For all these reasons you should buy a gaming mouse for 2020.

Segway Is Bringing An Electric Motorcycle To CES That Does 0-60 Mph In 2.9 Seconds

0

Segway is cool now? Yes, Segway is cool now, and the long-time mall cop transportation brand is going to cement its new reputation at the Consumer Electronics Show this year. The company has revealed plans to show off a new electric bike called the Apex in Las Vegas, and it’s going to be fast. The headline numbers indicate a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 125 mph.

Segway

You may be wondering how Segway has gone from mall transportation to sport bikes in such a short time. Thank Ninebot, Segway’s Chinese owners since 2015. We’ve written about an electric Segway drift-kart, self-balancing skates, new electric scooters and there’s even more out there. We’re not sure if any of this new product can successfully transform Segway into an enthusiast’s brand, but cool products like the Apex bike sure do a lot to help.

Details are sparse, but Segway did release a video of the bike motoring around a racetrack late last year. The rider isn’t exactly giving it the full beans (or hitting the apex), but we get a chance to hear it whir and whine along. The design isn’t revolutionary, but it does look good. It’s a bit strange seeing the Segway branding on the bodywork, but this is what Segway means today.

This year at CES may be the year that we see a ton of electric motorcycles hitting the scene, too. They’ve slowly trickled out with bikes like the Lightning Strike, Curtiss Psyche, Blackstone HyperTek, Buell Fuell, Zero SR/F and most interesting of all, the Curtiss Zeus concept. We’ve already ridden the Harley-Davidson Livewire, but many of the other electric motorcycles are still waiting to be launched. We’ll try to get a better idea of when many of these electric-powered bikes will be hitting the market at CES next week.

It’s the Segway S-Pod, and it’s a rolling chair that can travel at speeds up to 24.8 mph. If you’ve ever wondered what it felt like to be thrown out of a chair at 24.8 mph, we think this bit of tech is the perfect adult stroller for you. Jokes aside, this is definitely one of those weird things that show up at CES that we’ll never see in the real world. It’ll go up to 43.5 miles between charges, which is pretty impressive. Segway is nearly halfway to the new Mini Cooper SE.
